Alderwasley is a small village in the hills above Wirksworth, Cromford and Ambergate that retains it's charm, probably partly due to it's remote location away from the main A6 that cuts through the Derwent Valley below. The attentive visitor can be rewarded with excellent views over the valley.
Alderwasley is within a short drive of Carsington Water, a reservoir and nature conservation area with excellent circular walking and cycling trails, plus watersports and wildlife reserves. Wirksworth to the east is so often overlooked as a destination but forms a quaint and bustling market town with buildings and architecture that betray the Town's past as the centre of the prosperous lead mining industry. The Wirksworth Heritage Centre is well worth a visit to discover more about the Town's interesting history.
Wirksworth is at the head of the Ecclesbourne Valley about 4 miles south of Matlock and 6 miles North West of Belper. Packhorse Caravan Park is located at Alderwasley, for directions see site listing.
