So what is the CCY Test?

Updated: May 5

The Club’s National Youth Test offers a young person between 12 -17 the opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence, demonstrating a young member’s ability to be a safe, considerate and competent camper.

Passing the test has many benefits including independent camping on Camping and Caravanning Club meets, THS and Club sites; they also become eligibile to attend international rallies organised by the FICC, where they can socialise with young campers from across Europe and the world in a safe environment.

Camping and Caravanning Club Youth Rallies are organised throughout the year on both a regional and national, giving young people the opportunity to make make memories and new friends in a healthy, safe environment.

For CCY members embarking on their test training it is not a scary or intensive process; the CCY leaders work with the young people at camping meets thoughout the year, wher they teach the skills and knowledge required to pass the test. Skills such as learning where and how to pitch a tent, cooking meals using camping stoves, map reading and basic first aid. Not only this but the entire programme is free to members, plus DA and regions often raise funds to subsidise the cost of attending youth events.

All young people from 12-17 can get involved with the Camping Club youth and it is absolutely free. Passing the CCY test is entirely optional and offers additional benefits, not least it extends their free membership of the Camping and Caravanning Club as 'young campers' throughout their post-CCY years from 18-25.

There are a host of opportunities available by getting invovled with the CCY, so if you are or if you have a child 12-17 and they want to get involved with the Camping Club Youth, have a chat with the youth leaders or drop us a line via the contact form on the website.

Passing a test based on maturity, independence and life skills can also contribute to a strong CV for future university or career applications.

All Youth Leaders and Testers are subject to enhanced D.B.S. checks and safeguarding training.
