Ten units trusted to fortune after the recent deluge, venturing out to Great Longstone for Sheffield DA's 12th Meet of the year, and were rewarded with a weekend of sunshine (ok let's be honest, and a few showers!).
Saturday saw a strong contingent of 22 set out on what has become the traditional pub walk, heading out for the Monsal Trail, through the Headstone Tunnel and ascending to enjoy the iconic vista over Monsal Dale which brought the group to the first pub stop, the Monsal Head Hotel... when the heavens opened! Undaunted, the drinks flowed while the maelstrom passed until it was time to set out via foot or classic bus for Little Longstone and the second stop, the packed-out Packhorse Inn. After a scrum at the tiny bar the rush abated, starters were secured and appetites satiated. Onward over field and stile back to Great Longstone for the pre-booked tables, taking over the back room of the White Lion for main course and joined by Brian and Sylvia for dessert. Final stop for the sake of tradition took in The Crispin, before returning to base for the evening.
Sunday morning was met with glorious sunshine and a family walk to Hassop with the promise of ice cream, before returning to site amid a squally shower, which passed in time for a further drop of sunshine to end the weekend.
Thanks to Jane and Andy P for stewarding what was a pleasant weekend in a beautiful Peak District village.
